Creating Products

In this section, you will learn how to create a new product in the Merzio administration. The product creation process is divided into several steps, where you gradually fill in all the necessary information about your product.

Path: Admin > Products > New Product

Step 1: Product Type

At the beginning, you must choose the type of product you want to create. You have four basic options:

  • Physical product — tangible goods that must be shipped to the customer
  • Digital product — intangible content (e-books, software, templates)
  • Subscription — recurring purchase for a certain period of time
  • Gift voucher — a gift certificate with an automatically generated coupon code. After payment, the system generates the code, inserts it into the chosen PDF template, and emails it to the customer. See the Gift vouchers section for the full guide.

Special handling

Below the product type selection there is a Special handling section with two independent toggles:

  • Special logistics — for products that require a special shipping method (refrigerated, oversized, hazardous material, pallet delivery). When such an item is in the cart, only shipping methods marked as Available for special logistics orders in your settings will be offered at checkout.
  • Special payment — for products that need a different payment flow or manual approval (e.g. wholesale bank transfer, B2B proforma invoice). When such an item is in the cart, only payment methods marked as Available for special payment orders in your settings will be offered at checkout.

The two toggles are independent and can be used separately or together. For the full breakdown of which shipping and payment methods belong to the "regular" or "special" group, see Special shipping & payments.

Step 2: Basic Tab (Basic Information)

In this tab, you fill in the most important product information:

Product Name

Enter the product name. This field is required and the name will be displayed in all stores.

Short Description

A brief product description of up to 160 characters. This text is often displayed in product lists and search results.

Product Description

A detailed description with formatting options. You can include:

  • Technical specifications
  • Product benefits
  • Usage instructions
  • Material and composition

AI Generation

Click the Generate AI button and artificial intelligence will create a description draft based on the name and short description.

Slug

The URL identifier of the product (e.g. "my-t-shirt-red"). The system automatically creates a slug from the product name. Click Generate if you want to change or regenerate the slug.

Categories

  • Primary category — the main category the product belongs to
  • Secondary categories — additional categories where the product should be displayed

Brand

Select or create a brand (manufacturer) for the product.

Labels

Select appropriate labels for quick product identification:

  • New — for new products
  • Recommended — for recommended products
  • Sold out — for sold out products
  • Sale — for discounted products

Tags

Add tags separated by commas. Tags help with product organization and search.

Parameters

Define additional product parameters (e.g. color, size, weight). Parameters are displayed in the product details.

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

A unique product code for inventory and logistics. Example: "TRIC-M-RED-001".

Warranty

Enter the number of months of warranty for the product.

EAN/GTIN/UPC

Product barcode. These fields are used for product identification in the logistics system:

  • EAN — European code
  • GTIN — Global code
  • UPC — North American code

Active

Checking this field publishes the product on the e-shop. Unchecked products remain in draft.

Checking this field marks the product as recommended, which displays it in special places on the e-shop.

Product Images

Upload the main product image and additional photos to the gallery. The first image is displayed as the product thumbnail.

Step 3: Categories, Labels, Brands

This tab deals with product organization:

  • Categories — here you can see all categories the product is assigned to. Check that it is assigned to the correct categories
  • Labels — a quick way to tag products (new, sale, etc.)
  • Brands — manufacturer or brand identification

These elements have a fundamental impact on product navigation and filtering on the e-shop.

Step 4: Pricing Tab

In this tab, you set all prices and financial parameters of the product:

Regular Price

The base product price including VAT. This is the price the customer regularly pays.

Discount

Set a discount on the product:

  • Fixed price — discount in euros (e.g. -2.50 EUR)
  • Percentage — discount in percentage (e.g. -15%)

Discounted Price

Automatically calculated after entering a discount. This is the final price the customer will pay.

Cost Price

Your purchase price or manufacturing cost. This price is only displayed in the administration.

Tax Class

Select the correct tax class:

  • Standard 23% — standard VAT rate

Unit

Select the sales unit (pcs, kg, m, etc.). You can manage units in Admin > Units.

Unit of Measurement

The product measurement unit (e.g. kg for food, m2 for home textiles).

Step 5: Stock Tab

Set stock quantities and product availability:

Stock Quantity

The number of product units you have in stock. The system automatically deducts purchases.

Minimum Order

The minimum number of units a customer must order. By default, it is set to 1 unit.

Stock Status

Select the current availability status:

  • In stock — the product is available
  • Sold out — the product is sold out
  • On order — the product is not in stock but can be ordered
  • Pre-order — the product can be pre-ordered before official release

Stock Display Mode

How stock status is displayed on the e-shop:

  • Exact quantity — the exact number of units is displayed
  • Category — only the availability category is displayed (available, limited, sold out)
  • Control footer — an approximation is displayed (low, enough, plenty)

Back Orders

If enabled, customers can order the product even when it is not in stock.

Step 6: Attributes Tab

Attributes are used to define product variants (e.g. colors, sizes). If your product does not have variants, you can skip this tab.

Assign attributes that will define the variants. Examples:

  • Color — red, blue, green
  • Size — XS, S, M, L, XL
  • Weight — 100g, 250g, 500g

Recommendation

Set up attributes even for products without variants. They significantly improve search accuracy and recommendation quality across your store.

More information can be found in the Attributes section.

Step 7: SEO Tab

Optimize the product for search engines:

Meta Title

The product title for search engines (maximum 60 characters). Click Generate AI and artificial intelligence will create a draft.

Meta Description

The product description for search engines (maximum 160 characters). This text will be displayed in search engine results.

Tags

Keywords for SEO separated by commas.

TIP

Each of these fields has a Generate AI option that helps you create optimized content.

Step 8: Shipping Tab

Set the physical parameters of the product for shipping calculation:

Weight

Product weight in kilograms. This information is needed for shipping calculation.

Length

Product length in centimeters.

Width

Product width in centimeters.

Height

Product height in centimeters.

These parameters are used for shipping fee calculation and packaging optimization.

Creating the Product

When you have filled in all the necessary information, click the Create Product button at the bottom of the form. The system will check all required fields and create the product.

After successful creation, you will be able to return to the product page to further edit it or create its variants.

Required Fields

  • Product type
  • Product name
  • Primary category
  • Regular price
  • Stock quantity (for physical products)
