Canvas — visual editor
Path: Admin > Settings > Canvas (/admin/settings/canvas)
Canvas is a full-screen live editor for your store. The centre shows your real storefront (as a preview), with a settings panel on the right. You click any element directly in the preview and edit it — changes appear instantly. When you're happy, you click Publish.
Replaces the old screens
Canvas replaced the separate Visual settings and Theme management screens — their old links now open Canvas directly. Every appearance setting you used to make there is now in Canvas.
How to open it
- from the admin sidebar — the Canvas item,
- from the Dashboard (start cards),
- from a product's edit page with the Edit in Canvas button (opens Canvas on that product),
- the old Visual settings and Theme management links also open Canvas.
How Canvas works
- Hover over an element in the preview — it highlights and shows what it is (e.g. "Price", "Header", a page section).
- Click it — the settings panel opens on the right.
- Edit the values — the preview updates live.
- Save as a draft, and when it's ready, Publish to make it live.
What you can edit in Canvas
- Pages (Page Builder) — add, reorder, delete and edit sections.
- Product detail — name, price, descriptions, image order, product blocks and the detail's appearance.
- Product listing / category pages — hero, sorting, descriptions, quick category menu, sidebar filters, pagination.
- Blog and FAQ — the appearance of the listing pages.
- Header, footer, menu and announcement bar — header variant, colours, navigation behaviour, mobile menu, logo, search, menu items (including their link and design).
- Global appearance (the "Basic settings" gear panel) — brand and colours, typography, the "Add to cart" button, button/form/pill/tab styling, page widths and spacing, availability and delivery texts, admin-bar colour.
- Product-detail display — toggles such as SKU, availability, favorites, image zoom.
Draft vs published
Canvas distinguishes two kinds of change:
- Saved as a draft (live only after Publish): page sections, appearance/theme settings, listing configuration, menu items, announcements, product blocks, product fields, review texts. Use the Save draft button. A draft survives even if you close the editor.
- Live immediately after saving (the panel warns you): product catalog fields, availability/delivery texts, logo, blog/FAQ configuration and product-display toggles.
Publishing, review and discard
- Publish — one button makes all unpublished changes live at once. You see a "Published. Your changes are now live." confirmation.
- What will publish — before publishing you can review all pending changes (old → new values, added/removed sections…).
- Discard — drops all unpublished changes (after a confirm).
- While you have work in progress, an Unpublished changes notice is shown at the top.
- Every publish is written to a change log (who changed what) — an audit trail.
Changes for a single product only
When you open Canvas from a specific product's edit page, you can publish or discard only that product's changes without touching the store's other work in progress.
Relationship to the classic Page Builder
The classic Page Builder still exists and uses the same draft layer as Canvas — a section you start in Canvas also shows in the Builder and vice versa. Canvas is the more convenient way to edit right in the preview; the Builder remains for detailed section work.
Close the editor with the Close button (it returns you to the Dashboard).
